About the Agency

We want to help publish books that we want to read! Send us a previously unpublished manuscript with a fast-paced plot, intelligent and interesting characters, a manuscript that when it becomes a book, readers will clamor for it! Send us a bestseller, and we will do our best to help get that manuscript published.

Please remember to read our HOW TO SUBMIT before sending us your story.

Our History

Literary Counsel was founded by Frances Black in 2010 after working in the illustration business for 28 years. When her illustrators came to her pitching story ideas but not necessarily having the ability to write, Fran knew that she needed to open her agency to authors.

Frances Black, Founder

Frances Black loves to read, whether reading at the beach, under an umbrella, or curled up on a couch with green tea; she loves romance-based books, the quirkier the better.  One of her all time favorite books is Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter by Mario Vargas Llosa. Romantic: check! Quirky: double check!
Mr. Llosa gives his readers a tale and keeps them enthralled from beginning to end.

Somerset Maugham is also a favorite author. She says that, “You can smell and feel his words. Maugham’s innuendos about society, his plots and subplots and his portrayal of people can easily be observed today. One can glimpse his influences in current fiction and in original screenplays and, of course, in soap operas. His characters often take two steps forward only to fall three steps back. There’s intrigue, deceit, travel and adventure and of course there is mad love, just what books should offer.”

Jordan Breindel, Agent

Jordan grew up in New Jersey and has been reading ever since he learned how. As an agent, he's interested in literary and commercial fiction as well as mystery and thriller. In addition to agenting, he also works in advertising where he’s written some commercials you may have seen or fast-forwarded through.
Because of this, he can only respond to queries he’s interested in reading more of.
